On Monday 21st to Wednesday 23rd September, Onward and Create Streets hosted a three day conference, Creating Communities 2020. To mark the end of the conference, we are publishing a joint report, Places beyond the pandemic, which asks how place-based policy and regeneration can enhance communities and prosperity. Inside you will find essays from some of the people you have heard in recent days, including:
  • Rt Hon Robert Jenrick MP on “Planning for the future”
  • Bridget Rosewell on “Do we need to reform planning?”
  • Bruce Katz on “New Localism in the Age of Pandemic”
  • Helen Evans on how “Place-based partnerships can help us to build stronger communities”
  • Charles Marohn on “What does success mean for a Strong Town?”
  • James O’Shaughnessy on “Levelling up after the pandemic”
As well as practical guides to help you design beautiful, thriving places, including:
  • Ben Bolgar‘s “Top tips for successful design codes”
  • Jeff Speck‘s “rule of limited repetition”

We are immensely grateful to everyone who gave up their time to contribute, especially our terrific speakers, who offered such thoughtful and thought provoking remarks and our generous headline partners, CCN, Savills, Berkeley Group, and G15 and breakout partners, Latis Homes, JTP, Historic England and Pocket Living, for not just helping us put on a conference at a time like this but for providing such intellectual capital too.
If you attended the conference, you can playback all sessions on the conference platform. If you were not able to attend but would like to watch any of the sessions, please do get in touch at [email protected]
