Current Trajectory of Low Emission Vehicle Uptake

On the current trajectory approximately 23.6 million Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) are likely to be licensed by 2050. In addition, the adoption rate is likely to increase further in the run up to 2030 and the following years as the ban on the sale of new petrol or diesel cars and the 2035 ban on plug-in hybrid vehicles each come into force. However, the Department for Transport predicts that there will be 37 million cars on the roads by 2050 – meaning there could still be a shortfall of up to 13.4 million.
