The pandemic has had a devastating impact on younger generations and has been a major barrier for them developing their careers. Between February 2020 and February 2021, net employment fell by 693,000. Of those, 611,000 – nearly 9 in every 10 jobs lost – were young people.
Primary, secondary, further and higher education were also distrupted and young people were disproportionately affected by loneliness, isolation and mental illness.
This panel will discuss how best the Government, private sector, charities and UKYear can work together to help boost opportunities for young people across the UK. It will be an opportunity to discuss the future of youth employment across the UK and highlight what levers are available to the Government to get their first foot on the ladder.
