
When innovation systems work: what can the UK’s response to the pandemic teach us about wider science and technology policy?
This event will consider what lessons we can draw from the institutions and networks that successfully mobilised to fight the pandemic, and how we can learn from them in other sectors of the economy. This will include a discussion on the role of ARIA, to ensure it fulfils its potential as the engine of innovative, high risk research, and consider the wider questions posed by the Nurse Review.

Comparative Advantage: Can the UK stay scientifically competitive in a multipolar world?
This event will examine the growing number of foreign challenges the UK facing as highlighted by the Integrated Review and Innovation Strategy. It will consider the defensive steps necessary to preserve key technologies and assets in the UK through the National Security and Investment Act and lay the foundations for the Government’s offensive plan to develop, grow and scale our domestic expertise and industry in disciplines or technologies that are likely to underpin future scientific progress or economic value.
