Onward After Hours: The shape of the State

On 19 March, we will host our first Onward After Hours event on the second most important political event of the year, which virtually no one is talking about: the 2019 Spending Review.

The shape of the State: What should the Spending Review focus on?

So, what shape should the State be? How should public services adapt to the new ways in which people live their lives, work their jobs and consume products and services? What are the long-term fiscal challenges facing the country and how can this spending review prepare? Where are we in the economic cycle and what can ministers do to balance prudence with public appetite for investment and spending?

We are delighted to be joined by the person leading the Spending Review across Government – Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Liz Truss. Liz has engaged with these questions as a minister in the Department for Education, as Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and as Secretary of State for Justice, and will oversee the upcoming SR in her current role. We will confirm new speakers in due course.

What is Onward After Hours?

We created Onward After Hours as events with a difference, combining top-notch speakers, a young crowd and a relaxed atmosphere. We will dispense with one-way Q&A, by getting our speakers to ask questions of our audience. We will find awesome venues that inspire and get us outside Westminster. And we will find the topics that no one is talking about, but should be.
