Ignore the outrage about £100k salaries – paying civil servants more will transform the UK

Director Sebastian Payne argues for higher salaries for senior civil servants, to retain their expertise. He writes:

“What Whitehall must deal with is its talent problem. It is very common for the LinkedIn profiles of officials to be pinged by recruiters offering similar roles with less stress for greater salaries. One official who received an offer recently notes: “It happens across the whole service.” If you’re a press officer, the private sector will happily add a third to your salary. If you’re a junior security expert, a private consultancy will eagerly double your wage.”
